Gas line repair and replacement: questions and answers
What should I do if I smell gas?
Leave the house. Don't switch lights or appliances on or off, and don't use anything that sparks. From outside, call 911 or your gas utility's emergency line. Once it's made safe, a licensed plumber can find and repair the leak.
How do you know the repair is sound?
The line is pressure-tested before it goes back into service. That's the whole point of the test, because you don't take a gas repair on trust.
