Tankless water heaters
A tankless heater makes hot water on demand instead of keeping a tank hot, so it doesn't run out and it frees up floor or garage space. Converting from a tank usually means new gas and venting work, so the install matters more than the box you buy.

Worth considering when
- You run out of hot water with back-to-back showers
- You want the garage or closet space back
- The old tank is due anyway and you'd rather not replace it with the same thing
- You're planning to stay in the house long enough to see the benefit
What a conversion involves
- 01
Checking the gas line size and the meter can carry the unit
- 02
New venting, indoors or a wall box outside
- 03
Mounting the unit and running new water connections with service valves, so it can be flushed
- 04
Setting the temperature and testing flow at the faucets
What decides the price
Gas sizing, venting and where the unit goes matter as much as the unit itself. An outdoor wall install and a garage install are different jobs, and we price what yours actually needs. We give the estimate in person, once we’ve seen the job.

Tankless water heaters: questions and answers
Do tankless heaters work with Arizona's hard water?
Yes, with maintenance. Scale is the enemy of a heat exchanger, so it should go in with service valves that let it be flushed, and we'll tell you whether a softener is worth pairing with it.
Can a tankless unit go outside?
Yes. Outdoor models are made for it, and the mild winters here suit them. It saves indoor space and simplifies venting.
Will it really never run out of hot water?
It heats as the water flows, so it doesn't run out the way a tank does. What it does have is a flow limit: size it right and the showers and the dishwasher can run together.
